Bio
Lucas Javidan (he/his) works within the visual arts as both a ceramicist and a graphic designer. The son of immigrant parents from Korea and Iran, his multicultural upbringing influences his work, which explores the line between fine art and household wares. Lucas is based in San Diego, CA, where he currently works within the graphic design sphere
Primarily using the potters wheel as my means of artistic expression, I strive to bring beautiful objects into the lives of people everywhere. I draw inspiration from the rich histories of Korean and Middle Eastern ceramics, two vastly different cultures that are distinctly and inextricably tied to my cultural identity. Referencing historical forms and glazes, I operate within a framework established hundreds of years ago, with the aim to bring about works that are fresh and exciting.
The art world is often a prohibitive and unintuitive space, and I often think of how few people get to have real handmade art in their homes. This is one of the core tenets that drives me and my creative practice.
I make pots so that others might enjoy them.
